The painting was created by the French artist Jean Braud, whose signature can be seen at the bottom of the picture. In the 1870s, Braud appeared with Parisian interiors of striking local fidelity and with images from cafes, theater salons, market halls, ballrooms, public meetings and from police premises. The motif of the painting is the street Rue du Havre in Paris. Rue du Havre was
